I've been so intrigued by this American brand for quite some time, and even mentioned it on a wishlist of my '2013 Brands To Try' quite a while back! Finally I decided that it was time to purchase and try a few of 100% Pure's very tempting products.
The reason why I've been so curious to try them is because of the amazing ingredients in the products and philosophy behind the brand. They truly use only 100% natural ingredients, with not a preservative, synthetic chemical or artificial colour in sight. All formulas are vegan and fragranced with fruit extracts and essentials oils, whilst using a combination of anti-bacterial herbs, antioxidants and vitamins to naturally preserve their products.
What I'm most amazed by though is the use of fruit pigments to colour their products, rather than mineral micas, which I've not really seen any other brand do quite so extensively. All 100% Pure cosmetics are coloured using fruit and vegetable pigments that are filled with healthy antioxidants and vitamins. For now though I've just tried out a couple of skincare products, but I know in the near future I'll definitely be purchasing a few make-up items!
With that said... my first purchase was this Coffee Body Butter. I was hard pressed in choosing what butter to go for with so many wonderful sounding scents on the website, but coffee really lured me in. The formula is designed to moisturise, repair and soften, as you would expect with a butter, containing these 100% natural, nourishing ingredients:
When I first opened the pot, I expected to be hit with notes of rich coffee, but in all honesty the scent is a little more like digestive biscuits! I've never used a regular fake-tan before, but I imagine it's similar to the tell-tell fragrance that people often say goes with applying it. It's very strange, but I really can't detect a hint of coffee! Still I'm not overly fussed and I suppose there's worse things than smelling of rich tea haha. But the texture was also a bit of a let down, being somewhat lumpy and grainy. This does eventually disappear and melt onto the skin once applied, but it's not the nicest feeling and makes smoothing the butter onto skin a bit more time consuming. On the plus side, once on the butter really works very well to hydrate and nourish my parched skin. The ingredients are very moisturising and have helped soften dry areas of skin for me, but all in all this won't be a repurchase.
My second item was a body wash as I loved the idea of a foaming, natural wash, that 100% Pure offer, that again comes in so many tempting scents. I opted for Coconut and the product promised to gently cleanse, soften, hydrate and pamper.
Ingredients: Organic Aloe Juice , Organic Rose Hydrosol , Organic Lavender Hydrosol, Saponified Coconut Oil, Coconut Flavor, Coconut Extract, Organic Green Tea, Calendula, Prickly Pear, Pomegranate, Acai Berry, Goji Berry, Noni Fruit, Maqui Berry, Elderberry, Blackberry, Organic Raspberry, Grapefruit Seed and Japanese Honeysuckle, Hyaluronic Acid
Firstly with this product, you might have noticed the huge size! The bottle contains over 500ml and so has lasted me quite some time, and the bottle also has a very handy pump making it easy to quickly use and get the most out of the product. This time I wasn't disappointed with the scent which has a lovely and natural coconut aroma, making it a real pleasure to use. The gentle, soft foam is also so lovely to wash with and I was surprised how little I needed to use as the formula really 'suds up'. I absolutely love the way this makes my skin feel afterwards - soft, smooth... and yes, pretty pampered! For someone with highly sensitive and often very dry skin this really does work for me and has become one of my favourite items, one that I would really recommend.
My experience with 100% Pure was definitely a little mixed I have to say. I did love the results of both products though in the end and it's a brand I'm excited to try more from.
Have you tried anything from 100% Pure?
