A very merry Nail Of The Day!

Happy Christmas everyone! Hope you're all having a lovely time unwrapping presents and getting into the festive spirit. I'm sorry I haven't been very good at posting lately, I've just been pretty much snowed under with work, but I'll definitely try and write a few more posts before December's up! :)

So today I thought I'd quickly share what I'm wearing on my nails for christmas. It's nothing too sparkly or glittery, in fact it's not even really a festive red or green, but I've recently fallen in love with Barry M's 'Mushroom' polish.

 It's a lovely warm, light mauve-brown tone that makes me think of Christmas cookies, eggnog, fireplaces...pretty much just lovely warm, hearty images that I guess you would associate with today.

Barry M nail polishes are a steal at just £2.99 and I absolutely love the range. I applied two coats of Mushroom and I have to say that I love the quality along with the price. I've been wearing it for two days now and no chipping in sight! If you want to get your winter mitts on Mushroom or any other colours in the range then you can find them here.

Hope you all have a lovely day, let me know what you've got up to for Christmas! :)

Um Santa?. . . .

Hey there, I'd really appreciate these gifts, nicely wrapped and under the tree by the 25th....
Ok I'm guessing that's not going to happen, especially being in my 20s and all now, I've given up on the notion of Santa, the North pole and well, just generally the idea of reindeers and presents shooting down the chimney. Having said that, it's still a magical time of the year, where what's most important is celebrating with family and friends... and opening presents is always pretty exiting, whether you're a kid or a big kid :p So get in a festive mood whilst I share with you my ultimate 2011 Christmas beauty wishlist! . . .

Mu London Review and giveaway winner!

If you read my post about my Origin's splurge then you'll know my ongoing trouble with skincare and how sensitive and reactive my skin can be. Being the beauty junkie that I am I'm not sure why I never thought to test out organic ranges before. Surely organic and natural ingredients would be much less likely to cause irritation? Well...a few weeks back I was doing some beauty blog reading and came upon a review of Mu London. The look of their 100% natural organic ingredients really wowed me and made me excited to try out something new. Specifically designed for dry/sensitive skin it sounded like it might do me some good.

As well as the bonus of containing amazingly concentrated ingredients with absolutely no chemicals, I also found the brand's ethos appealing. Mu London are completely against animal testing, and are registered by the Vegan Society and PETA. Being an animal lover and former vegetarian (I tried) I really think this is a superb company in terms of the standards they uphold.

Onto the products...When I had a thorough look around on their website I was honestly at a loss for which cleanser and moisturiser to try out. Believe me they all sound amazing! From their White Chocolate Truffle to Frankincense, Marigold and Myrrh Moisturiser I was stuck for choice. On the verge of making an impulse decision I decided to actually look at the description of each product rather than clicking on the one I had lovingly gazed at the most. A monumental moment of decisive action meant I settled on the Rose Cleanser and Moisturiser which says in the description, "it will pamper, balance and nourish dry and irritated skin...in a base of Shea butter, Coconut butter and Golden Jojoba oil". This sounded completely perfect for my moisture deprived skin! I received the Rose products about two weeks ago and have been using them morning and evening ever since

The Cleanser, as you can see above, is a foaming one, which made me a bit hesitant at first because I know how drying they can be and I usually associate them with use for oily skin. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised. The foam was creamy and felt velvety on my skin with an amazing rich rose scent. In the morning I've really loved using it as it's incredibly refreshing and quick to use. Most importantly of all though, it hasn't irritated my skin!! :) No red rashes or itchiness in sight.

The moisturiser is like nothing I've ever used before. I would describe it as a rich balm-like texture, which at first I wasn't too sure about, but after using it for a while I've grown to love it. If you heat it up in your hands then it's much easier to apply, I then smooth it onto my face and neck. As the texture is so rich I find it takes a little while to absorb, but once it does it leaves my skin amazingly soft and creates a great base for makeup. I also love using this as an eye cream as it's so gentle and moisturising.

I have to be honest in that I didn't notice an instant calming or cooling effect on my skin with either product, but the more I used this skincare, the more I noticed an imporvement in texture and skintone. I've definitely seen my skin become a bit brighter, although this is probably from the redness decreasing (and me not being used to seeing clear skin!) and my dry patches have improved a lot.

Overall, I've really fallen for Mu London's products. They're full to the brim with lovely natural ingredients which is really what I've found my skin's in dire need of. If you suffer from dry/sensitive/irritated skin then I really can't recommend these products more.

If you'd like more information about Mu London and their products, check out their website here.

Have you tried Mu London or any other organic skincare? What are your thoughts?

*Guest post* DIY Hair Mask

-->
Rounding up my very incoherent series of guest bloggers is the lovely Carolina from Vanilla Pop, sharing her amazing recipe for a make-it-yourself hair smoothie!

. . . . . .

Hey everyone! My name is Carolina and I have a beauty blog called Vanilla Pop. I enjoy writing about beauty products both store bought and homemade. I was thrilled when I was asked to guest post here on Bow Tied Beauty! I wanted to share something special with all of you so I decided to teach you how to make a hair smoothie. This smoothie is intended to help you achieve healthy hair!
The ingredients we will be using are things you probably already have in your house. It’s just a matter of mixing the right things together to get the most benefits for your hair.

What you will need:
1 medium Banana

-->
¼ of a melon

-->
1 egg

-->
2 tablespoons of honey

-->
1 tablespoon of almond oil

-->
How to make it:
Mash up the banana and the melon. Add in the egg along with the honey and almond oil. Mix everything well and put it through a mesh strainer to avoid any clumps or chunks.
How to use it: Put the hair smoothie in your hair from roots to ends and massage your scalp. Cover it with a plastic shower cap to seal in moisture. Let sit for at least 20 minutes and rinse out well with shampoo.
Why it works:
Each ingredient has different properties and benefits for your hair. The melon and banana have a high dose of vitamin A which makes your hair soft and shiny. Bananas also contain a rich source of potassium, carbohydrates, natural oils, and vitamins which are important in improving the overall health of hair. Eggs are high in protein which will help to strengthen your hair and prevent breakage. Honey has moisturizing properties and is also an amazing all natural way to get shiny locks. Almond oil is often used as a home remedy for dry or damaged hair. This oil is also rich in vitamin E and contains magnesium; it provides moisture and deep nourishment as well as giving an added shine. The combination of all these wonderful ingredients makes for an amazing deep treatment for hair!
I hope you found this recipe helpful, I’m sure you will enjoy touching soft, shiny, manageable hair after washing out this hair smoothie J
Thanks to Bow Tied Beauty for having me!
XOXO
