Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion Review

Aveeno is a brand I like but one that I don't pay that much attention to normally. It's probably unfair to say, but it's packaging, whilst there's nothing wrong with it, often doesn't pull me in when you compare it to more exciting brands, most likely aimed at girls like me. I.e. my thought process in a trip to Boots; " Oooh, shiny!"...* gravitates toward product *.

BUT, what Aveeno lacks in bright colours or retro style packaging (this is obviously just personal preference) it clearly makes up for in quality. I've been describing in my recent posts how my skin is often troubled with dryness and irritability. On the hunt for a product that will adequately moisturise for the whole day and not cause any flare ups or itchiness (unfortunately this is how sensitive my skin is) I was recommended Aveeno's Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion.

The Ingredients

The majority of ingredients are natural and Oat based... a big plus! If you have sensitive skin, oats are known to be a calming and soothing natural remedy. Products that contain this as the main ingredient have always helped my incredibly intolerant skin. Among Colloidal Oatmeal, Oat Oil and Oat Essence, Shea butter has also been added to the mix. With fewer ingredients this means less likelihood of irritation.

The Quality

The lotion is not anything too exciting, it's fragrance free and a plain white colour. But this is because Aveeno have eliminated any synthetic colouring or fragrance that might cause a reaction. The result of their formulation is a non-greasy, easily absorbent cream that instantly moisturises the skin. I have been using this every morning and evening for two weeks now and I can't tell you the transformation I've seen in my skin from the very first day I started using it. Any dry patches or slight area of eczema were immdieately soothed and repaired so that after a week I could actually say my skin moved into the 'normal' category. The bottle also has a pump which I personally like as it makes it very easy to get the product out and you can also twist it to lock it so no air gets in.

The Verdict

This is the first body lotion I have ever used that has in fact moisturised my skin for the whole day. With continual use my skin (even extra tough/rough areas like knees and elbows) have become softer and smoother. The only downside I can think of is that by using this twice a day it ran out in just two weeks. At £7, it means I would have to spend £14 a month...but when you think about high end brands that cost double or more for the same quantity and don't deliver then it's obviously well worth it! Over all I'm just so impressed with Aveeno and this product. If you have dry, irritated, sensitive skin or just want some extra hydration for the winter months then this is a product you should buy.
